CONTRIBUTION TO PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS
Toowong is rapidly growing in population, yet the infrastructure to service its residents is seriously lacking. Our local residents desperately need more green, open space. Imagine a scenic riverside park, open to all, where families can relax, students can study, and kids can play safely out of the way of traffic.
The old ABC site at 600 Coronation Drive is the last large parcel of riverside land existing in Toowong. The 15,000 square metre flood prone site has a 130 metre river frontage, a heritage listed building (perfect for a café), mangroves, shade giving Moreton Bay figs and large blue gums – making it the ideal site for a community park.
Thousands of new apartments have and are being built, the streets are choking with extra cars, yet the community is losing out on open spaces to meet, play, relax, study and enjoy our beautiful riverside location.
Our parklands are disappearing, with the local area now left with around half of the parkland and sport & recreation space it had in the 1960s.
For our children’s sake we need to come together as a community and act fast before its too late. We need everyone in the community to voice their support to anyone that will listen.
